Prevent Periodontal Disease

Let’s envision your last dental visit. Your dentist that you’ve done a good job cleaning your teeth, however, you haven’t been flossing as much as you should be. Your dentist explains that your gums bleed because of this and if not treated it can lead to tooth decay. You are worried because tooth decay is the last thing you want for yourself. Dr. Martha Muldowney at Main Square Dental tells us how you can prevent periodontal disease from occurring.
Periodontal disease is very common amongst Americans, with over half of the population having some form of it.  Periodontal disease or gum disease is when bacteria builds up between gums and teeth inside the plaque, which is a very thin film that forms in the mouth. When left untreated gums can become swollen and very tender, can cause the surrounding bone tissue and structure to crumble. Gum disease is very treatable and as long as you brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day you will be fine. Using a mouthwash, keeping a balanced diet, and stop smoking can also prevent you’re the disease as well.
